Barcelona legend Xavi believes Arthur is laced with Barça’s DNA and has backed him to succeed at his former club.
The 21-year-old Brazilian midfielder recently ended a eight-year association with Grêmio after relocating to the Camp Nou for a reported £27m.
A talented controlling midfielder, renowned for his passing and creativity, Arthur became Barça’s first major acquisition ahead of the 2018/19 season and Xavi is liking what he’s seen.
“I’ve seen a few videos of him. There are a lot of Brazilians here at the Aspire academy who have spoken very well of him,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“I think he’s a player who is perfectly adaptable to Barca. He has what we call the Barca DNA, that technical quality, that talent you need. After that, it depends on him, his mentality and whether he is ready to play for a good team.”
Arthur’s arrival is part of the Catalan powerhouse’s midfield restructuring following the departure of club legend Andres Iniesta and Paulinho, who rejoined Chinese Super League outfit Guangzhou Evergrande.
Though yet to earn a full international cap, many tipped Arthur to make Brazil’s squad at this summer’s World Cup, but a call-up from Tite never materialised.
An integral part of Grêmio’s recent Copa Libertadores triumph, the native of Goiânia would ultimately make 50 appearances in all competitions for his boyhood team.
