Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois confesses he switched off his TV before the final whistle of France‘s World Cup win over Croatia after his heated exchange with Antoine Greizmann.
Courtois, 26, gave a brutal assessment of France’s tactical approach to the World Cup after Belgium lost 1-0 to the nation in the semi-final.
After the match, the stopper berated Didier Deschamps’ style of play, telling reporters: “I would have preferred to have lost in the quarter-finals to Brazil. At least that was a team that wanted to play football.”
This sparked retaliation from the French camp with Greizmann offering his own assertion that Courtois’ club Chelsea don’t exactly play Barcelona football.
The Atletico Madrid man’s comments appear to have left a sour taste in Courtois’ mouth as he refused to watch the nation lift the prestigious trophy.
He told Belgian newspaper RTBF: “I watched the final, but I turned off my TV in the 94th minute, I didn’t want to see France celebrating their win.
“But I didn’t miss the whole thing.”
Courtois further revealed that he only turned the TV back on once news broke that he had clinched the Golden Glove award.
He added: “My pals then told me that Luka Modric had just got the award for the best player at the finals, and said the announcement of the best goalkeeper was going to be made.
“It is an incredible honour, and I am happy I’ve been able to help Belgium by making a lot of saves.

“But it wasn’t the main priority. I wanted to go as far as possible in the finals.”
By claiming the accolade, Courtois became only the second ever goalkeeper to win the Golden Glove without winning the World Cup; with Germany’s Oliver Khan winning it in 2002.
Courtois kept two clean sheets against England while keeping a third against minnows Panama in the Group stages.
