France boss Didier Deschamps explains the key difference between Thierry Henry and Kylian Mbappe

France boss Didier Deschamps says that Kylian Mbappe is more mature than Thierry Henry and David Trezeguet when they were his age.

After a quiet group stage at the World Cup, Mbappe set the tournament alight in the knockout stages in Russia with several electrifying performances, including an incredible strike in the final that sealed victory for Les Bleus.

For his efforts the young Frenchman was named the Young Player of the Tournament by Fifa, after France defeated Croatia 4-2 in the final.

Deschmaps lavished Mbappe with praise after his side’s triumph, implying that he’s already more advanced than French greats from the past.

“He knows he does things others don’t. He’s intelligent, he listens,” Deschamps sais (via Metro). ‘

“I tell him when he does things well, but so many people say that. I’m also there to tell him what’s not good, even if that represents only five percent of his game. He corrects it and he listens.

“In 1998, David Trezeguet and Thierry Henry were his age but didn’t have the same role. Kylian is already grown up. I have played with very good players. I have also coached them.

“But him, it’s not only the quality. In terms of his age…With what he does now and what he should do in the future, I have always said, I’m very happy he’s French.”

There have been sustained speculation, both during an in the aftermath of the World Cup, over the 19-year-old’s future with Paris-Saint-Germain, but Mbappe, along with teammate Neymar, have both committed to their future to the Ligue 1 outfit.

PSG will take on Arsenal and Atletico Madrid before facing Monaco in the Trophee des Champions final.
