Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita reveals his “overall favourite player”

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita reveals that Barcelona legend Anders Iniesta is his “overall favourite player.”

Keita, 23, joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig on July 1 after the Reds triggered his £48 million release clause.

In an interview with the Guardian, the midfielder has revealed that he used to wear a Liverpool shirt when he played football in Guinea as a child, where he would often pretend he was Steven Gerrard.

Keita explained that his father called him Deco when he had kickabouts on the streets of Conakry, the capital of Guinea.

However, Keita says that his favourite player is Iniesta: “My overall favourite player would be Iniesta. It is his final ball, obviously, his skill and his ability.

“I know he is not known for his aggression but that is something I have added to my game, even if it is not one of his traits.

“I think as a midfielder you need to have that aggression as part of your game. But I always admired Deco too. It was funny because my dad loved Deco as a player. He started calling me Deco as a nickname around the house.”

Keita is one of many marquee players to head over to the red half of Merseyside this summer, as Jurgen Klopp plots a course to finally win silverware for the club.

Liverpool will conclude their pre-season preparations with games against Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Manchester United before they host West Ham United at Anfield in their opening fixture of the 2018-19 Premier League season.
