Ranked: Every confirmed 2018/19 Premier League away kit from worst to best

With less than a month to go until the new Premier League season kicks off, excitement is building among fans.

The dust has barely settled on the Jules Rimmet trophy, tucked safely away and enjoying its second stay in the French trophy cabinet.

English fans are finally coming down from their ‘coming home’ euphoria and, already, they are turning their attention to the start of the new Premier League season.

Most club’s home kits are out and being critiqued by fans around the world – but what about the away kits?

Here are the strips that will be worn on the road by Premier League clubs, ranked from worst to best:

13. Liverpool

The red and white of Liverpool’s home kits are truly iconic, recognised the footballing world over.

However, in the past, their away kits have often left much to be desired and this year’s effort is no exception.

Is it an eggplant? Has Ned Flanders finally found his coveted purple drapes? This strip looks more like an accident at a Dulux factory than a football kit.

Let’s hope Liverpool don’t draw any teams wearing red in Europe this season so this one can be firmly locked away.

12. Brighton and Hove Albion

You can just see it. Nike’s kit designers are sat around the table, tucking into a box of Quality Street and trying to decide on the biggest issue they’ve faced in years; what to do with the Brighton away kit?

And then it happens – someone whips out the green triangle.

A collective silence falls over the room as they all stare in amazement at the wondrously hideous green wrapping.

Their problems are solved and Brighton fans have a brand new away kit to avoid like the plague for the next 12 months.

Nike get a small bonus point for going all the way back to 1898/99 for the inspiration for this kit.

11. Southampton

Watch out fellas, Big Bird has signed for Southampton. Or is that a Minion?

All jokes aside, there are much worse efforts at kits than this one from Southampton.  But there are much better…

At least you won’t miss them.

10. Leicester City

There are some interesting colour combinations at play here.

Addidas’ first attempt at an away shirt for Leicester since their switch from Puma is dividing opinion among Foxes fans.

For that reason, it is probably fitting that it comes midtable in this list – it is literally impossible to tell if this is a nice kit or not.

9. Bournemouth

Plain white with what the official club website describes as a “coral trim” – or orange – this kit is a decent effort.

The sleeve colour is a little out there and its simplicity begs the question as to whether Umbro just couldn’t be bothered finishing it, but at least they left it at a respectable point.

8. Huddersfield Town

“Are you Bournemouth in disguise?”

Giving Umbro some credit here, this red and black kit is a solid effort – if a little unremarkable.

Bringing back the Terrier logo will certainly endear the fans and, harking back to the 1990’s, Umbro putting their diamond logo around the sleeves of their current kits makes for a nice touch.

7. Wolverhampton Wanderers

A stronger effort from Addidas, this white away strip for Wolves has an element of class about it – fans will be hoping that their classy midfielder, Ruben Neves, sticks around to wear it.

The only issue – with Wolves being Premier League new boys and potentially spending a lot of time sliding around on the ground and making tackles, you can’t imagine the kit man is ever-enthused about having to clean a white kit.

6. Fulham

A dark and interesting blue with the white Addidas tri-colour down the side and gold Dafabet sponsor in the middle, this is a very nice away kit for Fulham’s return to the Premier League.

Whether the kit will carry any fond memories is yet to be seen – the Cottagers have a nasty habit of losing away from home in the Premier League – but Fulham fans can at least faun over it now before the season starts.

5. West Ham United

A very eye-catching dark teal with Umbro’s sleeve trim appearing claret, West Ham have themselves a sleek and stylish away kit for the 2018/19 season.

As always with the Hammers, the fans will have high expectations of the team on the pitch.  The team may struggle to deliver, but my word they will look good as they toil their way through the season in an attempt to seal the top of the bottom half trophy – commonly known as 11th.

4. Cardiff City

A grey and silver strip with blue Addidas stripes, this is definitely one of the strongest away kits in the Premier League this season.

The colours compliment each other absolutely perfectly and, if Cardiff fail to adapt to Premier League life, at least they will fail in style with this modern looking number.

3. Arsenal

A quiet stadium, finishing below Tottenham, an awful home shirt. Can Arsenal get anything right in North London these days?

Fear not though, Gooners.  Your away shirt for the coming season is simply beautiful and, if it keeps inspiring the kinds of performances like Arsenal’s 8-0 demolition of the mighty Boreham Wood in pre-season, maybe the club will petition for all of their Premier League games to be away days.

Their form on the road last season suggests that might not be a good idea, however.

2. Newcastle United

You know that really nice Arsenal away kit? Well, Newcastle did it too, but better.

A throwback to Newcastle’s ‘nearly year’ 1995/96, if Perez, Shelvey, YeDelin and co. can do half as well as Ferdinand, Ginola, Beardsley and co. then the Magpies could be in for one thrilling, stylish ride this season.

Do you think Rafa would ‘love it if we beat them’?

1. Crystal Palace

Coming in at a deserving number one, this absolutely stunning white shirt with red and blue sash is a wonderful effort from Puma.

The design is based on Palace’s away strip from 1978, when they won the old Second Division and FA Youth Cup, and might just inspire Christian Benteke to remove his second left foot and remember how to score goals again.

And even if he doesn’t, and Roy Hodson makes him take corners with Palace having a disaster of a season, at least they will go down in a blaze of polyester glory.
