Real Madrid new boy Vinicius Jnr compares his style of play to Neymar

Real Madrid new boy Vinicius Jnr says his playing style can be compared to Neymar.

The 18-year-old Brazilian forward signed a contract to join the 13-time European champions in May 2017 with his lucrative move becoming effective following his 18th birthday this month.

Given the hype surrounding Vinicius, which has led to more eyes and coverage, he’s conscious of the comparisons with his more illustrious compatriot Neymar given they play a similar role.

Even though the São Gonçalo native has struck a friendship with the Paris Saint-Germain star and feels their style of play is similar, he doesn’t want to be seen as a carbon copy.

“I think my style of play is similar to Neymar. They have compared me to [retired Brazil striker] Ronaldo but to be like both would be great,” he told reporters (via Goal).

“Neymar is my idol, the idol of all Brazilians, of everyone. I dream of playing with Neymar, and if God wills it, I will play with him soon for Brazil.”

The rise and rise of Vinicius

A graduate of Flamengo’s esteemed academy he’d make his full senior professional debut a mere 10 days before securing a future transfer to Real Madrid.

He’d register his first goal later that August in a Copa Sudamericana game against Palestino and would ultimately bag 10 goals across 49 matches in all competitions.

Despite playing 705 minutes in the 2017 Brasilerao, Vinicius attempted the third most dribbles (43) amongst his Flamengo teammates, averaging a team-high of 5.5 per 9o minutes.

It is this desire to attack opposing defenders repeatedly that has drawn comparisons with Neymar. However, his 44.2% success rate reflects the exuberance of his youth and the need to refine his talent further before making his move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
