Unai Emery is Arsenal’s signing of the summer – Robert Pires

Former Arsenal star Robert Pires believes new manager Unai Emery is the best signing that the club will make this summer. 

Emery joined the club after former manager Arsene Wenger stepped down from his role following a 22-year tenure in north London.

The former Paris Saint-Germain boss has hit the ground running and signed a number of players who he feels will improve Arsenal’s fortunes both domestically and in the Europa League.

In his time at PSG, Emery won a host of awards and titles as the club continued their dominance in Ligue 1.

Former Arsenal star Pires believes it doesn’t matter which players the Gunners bring into the club this summer because they have already made the best signing they possibly could with getting Emery into the club.

Pires told Sky Sports (via Goal): “The best signing for me is Unai Emery, the manager.

“Of course I believe in the players, and especially the new players.

“But for Emery it’s very important to start very well. He knows he’s at a big club, and has a lot of pressure, but I think he has a big character and spirit.

“He won in Spain. He won in France. He has a lot of experience and I hope for him and Arsenal that he is successful with the club.”

Arsenal’s first Premier League match of the season is against current Premier League champions Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday 12th August.
