Yuri Berchiche swaps PSG for Athletic Club after just one season in France

Paris Saint-Germain full-back Yuri Berchiche has completed a transfer to La Liga side Athletic Club after completing just one season in France.

The 28-year-old moves to back to Spain for roughly €20 million after arriving from fellow Spaniards and league rivals Real Sociedad last summer for close to €13 million.

The news was confirmed via PSG’s official Twitter account which wished Berchiche well and thanks as he departs the French club.

The Basque side later confirmed on their official website that the left-back had signed a five-year deal, including a 100million euro release clause.

Berchiche had produced some good performances in a season which saw PSG win the Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue in Unai Emery’s last campaign in charge of the club.

However, Emery’s departure saw former Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel arrive in France’s capital with the German deciding that Berchiche’s time at the club was up.

Last season, Berchiche made 32 appearances in all competitions for PSG including 22 matches in Ligue 1.

The left-back scored twice and provided four assists whilst battling then-fellow PSG full-back Layvin Kurzawa for a place in the starting eleven.
