Jesse Lingard says that England will be wary of Radamel Falcao despite the Colombian’s disappointing season at Old Trafford.
England are preparing for their round-of-16 tie against Colombia at the World Cup in Russia, and there’s one player the Three Lions will be worrying about ahead of Tuesday’s game.
While Falcao had a dismal spell in the Premier League with Manchester United and Chelsea – only hitting the back of the net five times in 41 appearances – he’s become one of Ligue 1’s most lethal forwards with Paris Saint-Germain.
That fact was not lost on Lingard, who says that his Three Lions’ teammates will be aware of his ability.
“He’s a great finisher,” Lingard said, according to the MEN.
“In and around the box, he’s lethal. We will be aware of that.”
It has been suggested that England’s second-place finish in Group G has provided them with an easier path to the semi-final, because if they beat Colombia, Croatia or Switzerland will await them in the quarter-finals.
Lingard insists England are not getting ahead of themselves in Russia. “For us, it is game by game, and see where it takes us.”
“We have to concentrate one game at a time. We are going to have to play the big teams sooner or later, and if you want to be the best team in the world, you have got to beat the big teams.
“We are not really fussed what side (of the draw) we got chosen on.”
England play Colombia on Tuesday at 7pm.
