Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been linked with a sensational move to Barcelona this summer – but Ernesto Valverde is keeping quiet on any speculation.
Pogba has come under scrutiny for his performances at Manchester United since returning to the club from Juventus in 2016 – some critics attribute his £89.3m fee as a source of too much pressure on the 25-year-old.
However, the Frenchman caught the eye during Les Bleus’ World Cup winning campaign in Russia this summer, winning the most duels (58) and having the second most touches (412) out of any player in Didier Deschamp’s squad, as well as scoring the third goal in France’s 4-2 final win over Croatia.
But, despite not explicitly ruling out a move for Pogba, Barcelona manager Valverde refused to be drawn too much on the speculation – instead choosing to praise the player.
He told reporters (via Football Espana): “Paul Pogba is obviously a great player, but we respect those who are at other clubs.
“I do not really have any comments to make on the rumours that are circulating around – they are just rumours.
“There are a lot of names that always get circulated around in the rumour mill – all of them are good players and we respect them themselves but we also respect the clubs they are currently at.”
The praise from Valverde comes as Pogba is rumoured to have a fractured relationship with Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, and may turn the midfielder’s head this summer.
