Real Madrid blame Monaco for missing out on Mbappe, says Vadim Vasilyev

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez still regrets not signing French superstar Kylian Mbappe, according to Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev.

Mbappe, who enjoyed a sensational World Cup and scored four times for champions France, joined Paris-Saint Germain on loan last August under the proviso that the Ligue One champions pay €145 million plus €35m in add-ons to secure a permanent move the subsequent summer.

Real Madrid were also in hot pursuit of the teenage sensation and, according to Monaco’s vice president, Florentino Perez blames him for not selling Mbappe to Madrid.

“Every time I meet with Florentino (Perez), he tells me of his regret for the Mbappe situation,” Vasilyev is quoted by Football Espana.

“He puts the blame on me for not selling him to Madrid…but it was up to the player!

“Relations between us and Madrid remain strong though, and we both wish the player, who is a future Ballon d’Or winner for sure, was at our own club!”

Kylian Mbappe cannot stop making history

Mbappe had an excellent first season with PSG, scoring 21 goals in 44 games across all competitions with 13 of those coming in the 24 appearances he made in Ligue One.

The 19-year-old also contributed incredibly well for his teammates, creating 45 chances in the league and assisting on eight goals.

The former Monaco star is still being linked with a move to the Spanish giants, but considering the enormous amount of money PSG spent on the player, he is likely to remain in Paris for the foreseeable future.

Mbappe made his first appearance for PSG this season when the Parisians beat Guingamp 3-1 on Saturday. He made yet more history during the win, becoming the first teenager to reach the 30-goal mark in Ligue 1 in the last 45 seasons.
