West Ham hate Wilson: 11 things you might have missed from the Premier League 3pms

The Premier League was back in full swing on Saturday with four games being played at the traditional 3pm slot for the second round of fixtures.

Saturday’s early kick-off may have been bereft of goals in a 0-0 draw between Cardiff City and Newcastle United, but the 3pm games provided excitement for fans around the country.

Last season’s third-placed side Tottenham Hotspur beat recently-promoted Fulham 3-1 at Wembley, Everton got the better of Southampton 2-1, West Ham United lost 2-1 at home to Bournemouth and Leicester City beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0.

Here are 11 things you may have missed from the Premier League’s 3pm kick-offs.

1. Harry Kane finally scores in August

After 15 games, 49 shots on goal and many memes it has finally happened. Harry Kane has scored a goal in August.

A poor performance against Newcastle last time out had started fears once more of the Englishman not being able to score in the first month of the new Premier League season, amid talks of tiredness through being overworked.

But against Fulham, Kane finally broke his August duck, scoring the third at Wembley to secure Spurs’ win.

2. Morgan Schneiderlin records first Premier League assist in over three years

The first Premier League goal of Saturday saw Everton’s Morgan Schneiderlin set up Theo Walcott to open the scoring against Southampton.

This brought Schneiderlin’s first Premier League assist since April 2015 when he set up Graziano Pelle for Southampton in a 2-0 win over Hull City.

3. Richarlison’s perfect start continues

Life under Marco Silva is proving great once more for Richarlison with the Brazilian scoring in his second consecutive game for Everton.

The goal came from just his third shot at his new club, which each of the previous two also resulting in goals against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

4. Matt Doherty scores first own goal of the new season

Leicester City opened the scoring against Wolves on Saturday via an own goal from Matt Doherty as he headed in Marc Albrighton’s cross.

Unfortunately for Doherty, the defender will go down in history as the first player to score an own goal in the Premier League this season, and 575th in total.

5. Lucas Moura scores first Premier League goal

Who needs Harry Kane in August when your goals can come from other positions.

In opening the scoring for Tottenham against Fulham at Wembley, Lucas Moura scored his first goal in the Premier League having joined the club in January from Paris Saint-Germain.

Lucas’ only other Spurs goal came in last season’s FA Cup, in a 2-2 fifth-round draw with Rochdale.

6. James Maddison opens his Leicester account

Following his summer signing from Norwich City, James Maddison was starting his second consecutive game for Leicester in the Premier League.

And the 21-year-old opened his account for his new club, in doubling their lead against Wolves. It also came from Maddison’s second shot in England’s top flight, having had an effort on goal in the opening game against Manchester United.

7. Theo Walcott comes back to haunt former club

Playing against his former side in Southampton, Theo Walcott enjoyed one of his best Premier League matches since December 2012.

The 29-year-old opened the scoring and then set up Richarlison for the second, making his the first team he has both scored and assisted in the same Premier League game since scoring a hat-trick and providing two assists in a 7-3 win for Arsenal over Newcastle United.

8. Danny Ings scores third goal under third different manager

Danny Ings endured a tough time at Liverpool due to injury problems and the emergence of their frightening front three, resulting in his loan move to Southampton.

Against Everton on Saturday, Ings scored his first for his new club adding to a strange accomplishment.

Ings’ past three Premier League goals have been scored under three different managers: Mark Hughes on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp last season and Brendan Rodgers in October 2015 – scoring in a 1-1 draw with Everton which would prove to be the Northern Irishman’s last game in charge at Liverpool.

9. Aleksandar Mitrovic is almost as prolific as Mohamed Salah

This summer, Aleksandar Mitrovic made his move to Fulham permanent from Newcastle having spent the second half of last season on loan at Craven Cottage.

Equalising for Fulham against Tottenham, Mitrovic scored his 13th league goal since making his debut in February.

In that time period, only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (14) has managed more in the top four tiers of English football.

10. Callum Wilson proves to be West Ham’s bogeyman once more

West Ham fans must hate the sight of Callum Wilson, after the Bournemouth striker brought his side level on Saturday.

The goal was Wilson’s fifth in his past five league games against the Hammers, his best record against any side in English football.

However, it will still not sting as bad as his previous goal against West Ham did – a controversial late equaliser on Boxing Day 2017, in which his scored amid suspicions of handball and offside.

11. Kieran Trippier’s golden summer continues

The unbelievable summer may have ended in England both weather-wise and for the national team but apparently no one has told Kieran Trippier.

The Bury Beckham scored a brilliant free-kick for Tottenham against Fulham, reminding some fans of his effort in England’s World Cup semi-final against Croatia.

His goal was just the second in the Premier League Trippier has scored, with the other coming in a 1-0 win over Watford in February 2016.
