Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has made the bold claim that his side’s front three are on par with Liverpool‘s lethal attacking trident.
The Cherries have been in red-hot form this season, scoring as many goals as both Spurs and Arsenal, with 10 in their opening five fixtures, and currently sit fifth in the league.
Eddie Howe’s men were emphatic over the weekend, firing four past a toothless Leicester City, and each of Bournemouth’s front three played a significant role in the rout.
Ryan Fraser scored a brace and provided an assist; Josh King also scored and assisted; and Callum Wilson – who already has two goals to his name this term – registered an assist.
The free-flowing football and attacking intensity of Bournemouth’s front three are emblematic of the style of play Howe espouses, and Begovic believes the trio are now in the same bracket as Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
“Our front three are as good as anyone in the league,’ he said (via the Daily Mail). “We are a very attacking team, we want to attack and score goals.
“They are up there with Liverpool’s front three when they are on form. The way we play suits them. They have a great understanding and long may it continue.”
Given Bournemouth’s early excellence, the former Chelsea shot-stopper will now be expecting more frequent appearances from Gareth Southgate in the stands at Dean Court, and the Bosnian was quick to highlight the form of a number of the England contingency in his side’s ranks.
He added: “A few of the lads should be in consideration for England, the lads have been doing it week in, week out.
“Callum, Steve Cook, Lewis Cook, those guys have got to be pushing. It is great recognition for the club if they do.
“They are at international level. They have proved themselves at the highest level on a consistent basis. I know they are pushing and I’m sure they will get their rewards in the end.
“We are playing a similar style to England. If the opportunity opens up, I’m sure the lads will take it.”
The front threes compared
It is certainly early days this season with only five matches played, but Bournemouth’s attacking trio lead the way for goals and assists on 12, while Liverpool’s trio have only 11.
Wilson has scored two and assisted two, Fraser has scored three and assisted two, while King has scored two and assisted one. For the Reds, Mane has scored four, Salah has scored two and assisted once, and Firmino has scored two and assisted two.
That being said, it is unlikely that the Bournemouth front three will match the achievements of Liverpool’s tripartite from last campaign as the trio netted 57 league goals between them, and collectively registered 24 league assists.
