Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier has praised club boss Mauricio Pochettino for his improvement in football over the last few years.
Trippier has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League, cementing his place in the Tottenham starting line-up.
He also proved his worth on the international stage and was part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad who impressed in Russia this summer at the World Cup.
Trippier scored a fantastic free-kick against Croatia in the semi-final but also provided consistent performances throughout the tournament, earning himself wide praise from supporters.
The former Burnley man has revealed his self-improvements have come down to the support he has received from club boss Pochettino.
“If a manager wasn’t communicating you would be thinking, “I must be doing something wrong’,” he told reporters.
“The manager was always saying, “Your chances will come”.
“I just waited. The way he handles his players when they’re not playing is crucial — just that little pat on the back.”
So far this season, Trippier has scored one goal and recorded one assist as Spurs have won three of their five opening games in the Premier League.
Tottenham lost out to Liverpool at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The north London side next face Inter Milan in their first Champions League game of the season, travelling to the San Siro on Tuesday.
