Luka Modric thrilled by thought of Inter move, says agent

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is excited by the idea of being a key player for Luciano Spalletti at Inter Milan according to the player’s agent.

Modric is a target of the Italian club, with speculation about a possible move mounting.

The 32-year-old midfielder had an excellent World Cup with Croatia, helping lead his nation to the final where defeat by France brought one of the most iconic images of the tournament in Russia.

Following defeat in the final the president of Croatia was seen wiping tears from the eyes of Modric after the 4-2 defeat in Moscow but the player’s performance reaffirmed his ability as one of the world’s top midfielders.

This fact is not lost on Inter, who have seen rivals Juventus make the biggest signing of the last decade or more in Serie A by spending €100m on Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

Signing a player of Modric’s quality would help Inter, who will be playing Champions League football this season, keep up with Juve who are heavy favourites again for the Scudetto. The Croatian midfielder is reportedly open to the move which would see him move to a league he has always admired.

His agent, Marko Naletilic, has talked up Modric’s chance of making the move saying the player has been thinking of having a big role with the club.

Naletilic told Tuttosport : “Modric didn’t just think about playing at Inter, he’s really thrilled by the idea of having a big role with the Nerazzurri.

“I have the feeling that sooner or later, Modric will play in Italy: he grew up watching Serie A.”

The Croatian has been named in Real Madrid’s squad to face Atletico in the UEFA Super Cup but speculation about his future remains.

His agent believes that a move to Serie A will happen and Italian publication Corriere della Sera reported on Tuesday that the Nerazzurri have not given up on signing Modric and that the player will discuss his future with Madrid president Florentino Perez on Thursday.

Modric’s impressive displays at the World Cup won him the Golden Ball award and Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui has been emphatic in his public assertions that Modric would remain with Real. Modric has a release clause in his contract of £670m, a fee obviously meant to put off potential suitors.

During his time in Madrid, the Croatian has made 257 appearances so far, scoring 13 goals.
