Agent of North Korean history-maker confirms Juventus approach

Juventus and Inter Milan were among the clubs interested in signing North Korean star Han Kwang-song in January, according to the Cagliari striker’s agent.

Han spent the first half of last season on loan at Serie B side Perugia, where he scored seven goals in 17 appearances.

Han playing for Perugia last year.

The 20-year-old returned to Cagliari but didn’t manage a single goal in seven Serie A performances, and he is now back in Serie B with Perugia on another loan deal.

But Han could have been playing alongside the likes of Ivan Perisic at Inter, or Paulo Dybala at Juventus, as there was interest from both clubs in January according to his agent Sandro Stemperini.

“I’m not directly aware of anything happening in the summer,” Stemperini told Calcio Mercato (via Football Italia).

“It may be that, in the many meetings between Juventus and Cagliari, they went back to talking about Han but if so it was a discussion only between the two clubs.

“For January I’m certain because I was in those meetings and I worked on it. It wasn’t simply that the clubs didn’t agree, there was a difference between supply and demand.

“It was a complicated negotiation because it involved several other players, and unfortunately it wasn’t successful.

“I also talked about him with [Walter] Sabatini when he worked at Inter. There were several clubs interested, there are always a lot of requests for information, but contact is one thing and a formal meeting is another. That only happened with Juventus.”

Han the history-maker

Before his loan move to Perugia, Han did make five Serie A appearances for Cagliari and became the first North Korean to score a goal in the Italian top-flight.

The youngster has made two appearances for the North Korean national team but is yet to find the net on the international stage.

Cagliari are currently 13th in Serie A having won two of their opening eight games, drawing three and losing three.

They face Fiorentina this weekend after the international break, while Han and Perugia take on Salernitana in Serie B.
