Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has his say after furious Vidal’s bench reaction

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde is confused about Arturo Vidal‘s outburst on social media after being left out of the starting XI against Spurs last Wednesday in the Champions League.

A brace from Lionel Messi as well as goals from Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic were enough to seal Barcelona’s 4-2 victory in the Champions League last Wednesday night at Wembley.

Vidal was left out of the starting line-up for the European clash and was only introduced to the action in the 87th minute, leaving him without an opportunity to affect the game.

The Chile international is apparently growing frustrated with his lack of game time in Catalonia after he made the switch from Bayern Munich in the summer.

After the game an angry emoji was posted on Vidal’s social media which was later removed and then followed up by a Tweet in which he said: “NEVER GIVE UP!!! The Best is yet to come!!”

Valverde claims he does not know what upset Vidal and hinted that his anger could be related to the Chilean’s personal life.

“We’re a team. He hasn’t told me anything. I don’t know if he’s angry about the game or about a domestic accident,” Valverde told a news conference (via Goal).

Valverde also spoke about the enthusiasm of the players and noted that Lionel Messi approaches games with the same attitude.

“I think he’s the same every game,” he said. “As far as enthusiasm goes, yes, certain games maybe bring more out of the players. There was an incredible rhythm to the game the other day and that brings more out of every player, not just Messi.

“But, mentality wise, I see Leo going into every game the same.”

Barcelona face struggling Valencia at the Mestalla this evening.
