Why Zinedine Zidane might now want the Man Utd job – agent

Zinedine Zidane’s agent claims that his client does not intend to manage in the Premier League despite reports he is set to replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United

It was looking like the final nail had been hammered into Mourinho’s coffin on Saturday evening, as his disorientated United side conceded two sloppy goals within the opening 10 minutes against Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

However, after some peculiar substitutions and a half-time break, the Red Devils mounted an extraordinary comeback reminiscent of their exploits in the late 90s under Sir Alex Ferguson, to win the game 3-2.

A terrific free-kick from Juan Mata got the home-side back in the game, which was followed up by Paul Pogba and compatriot Anthony Martial linking up together to bring the Red Devils onto level footing.

Then a header in the last minute from Alexis Sanchez courtesy of an Ashley Young cross, whipped in from the right flank clinched all the points, and may just have saved Mourinho’s gig – for another week at least.

If the first-half scoreline had carried over to the full-time whistle then reports of Mourinho’s sacking would have certainly intensified, as would the rumours about his successor.

Zizou has been touted constantly as the man who is destined to replace the Portuguese tactician, but the France legend’s agent, Alain Migliaccio, has quashed the rumours, insisting to Journal du Dimanche:  “I do not think that he will manage in England.

“It is much less his style. I have discussed it with him, it does not really attract him. He has chosen to have a year out, he will not dive in again before that is over.”

Migliaccio’s claims don’t entirely chime with Zidane’s own words on the subject as he told RTVE back in September that “Certainly I’ll be coaching again soon.”

Assuming that Mourinho keeps his job he will have a fortnight to steady the ship at Old Trafford and address some of the tensions that have spilled out of the dressing room.

The 55-year-old will be desperate to achieve this quickly as United’s next run of fixtures are incredibly competitive. United return to the Premier League action on 20 October against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge; three days later they host Juventus in the Champions League.
