Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has left Antonio Valencia out of their squad to face Newcastle United on Saturday evening.
The Ecuadorean made headlines for the wrong reasons in midweek as he ‘liked’ a post on Instagram calling for Mourinho to be sacked following the club’s goalless draw with Valencia in the Champions League.
Whether it is purely coincidence or Mourinho showing his authority, Valencia was dropped from the United squad all together for their must-win game against Newcastle at Old Trafford, despite apologising and calling the ‘like’ a misunderstanding.
Ashley Young is the man to replace Valencia in one of three changes from United’s midweek Champions League draw, with Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial coming in for Marouane Fellaini and Alexis Sanchez.
That means Paul Pogba continues in midfield for Man United, despite rumours of a falling out with Mourinho, though Young captains the side.
Man United XI vs. Newcastle: De Gea; Young, Bailly, Smalling, Shaw; McTominay, Matic, Pogba; Rashford, Lukaku, Martial.
Newcastle XI vs. Man United: Dubravka; Yedlin, Lascelles, Fernandez, Manquillo; Diame, Shelvey; Ritchie, Ayoze Perez, Kenedy; Muto.

United’s opponents on Saturday, Newcastle, are in as much need for as win as the Red Devils are and have opted for a 4-4-1-1 formation with Yoshinori Muto leading the line slightly ahead of Ayoze Perez.
Full-back Javier Manquillo has been handed just his second league start of the season with Paul Dummett out and Kenedy playing further forward.
Newcastle are still awaiting their first win of the season having lost five of their opening seven Premier League matches, drawing two, to add to an early Carabao Cup exit to Championship side Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile Man United are without a win in four across all competitions, last winning against Young Boys in the Champions League on September 19.
Twitter reacts to Antonio Valencia’s exclusion
With things already not going well at Manchester United in recent weeks, fans were not happy to see Valencia dropped from the squad on Saturday.
Good luck to all my team.

Antonio Valencia is dropped from the Manchester United day squad for liking a post asking for Jose Mourinho to be sacked. Pogba said attack attack attack and has never bn dropped. That shows whose more important to the club.

Lol,so because Valencia mistakenly liked a post saying Jose out that's why he isn't starting today huh? Hmmm, not even on the bench either, wow,

Not an exciting line-up at all. I hope we don't go defensive and allow inferior opponents have control of the ball.
And I have to watch Young again today – had painful headache last Saturday watching lackadaisical football and some terrible individual displays— Adebiyi Akeem A. (@A1_tunde) October 6, 2018
Another poor lineup by JM 🦖
– Dalot should start in place of Ashley Young at RB.
– Pereira & Fred should start in place of Scott McTominay & Nemanja Matić.
– Why are we playing 2 static CDM’s at home vs. Newcastle? 🤷♂️#MUFC #MUNNEW— Reece Gibson (@REECEGIBSON_) October 6, 2018
