Neymar said he would sign for Real Madrid, says Dani Carvajal

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar once said he would sign for the Spanish giants.

The incident took place 12 years ago when Neymar was training with the Los Blancos youth team in 2006 when he was still contracted to Brazilian side Santos.

Carvajal was part of that youth set-up and has spoken out about Neymar’s declaration that he would move to Real Madrid in the future.

The Spanish defender told Libero (via Goal): “I remember Neymar perfectly well in the youth team.

“He told us that he was going to stay and we all lifted him up and celebrated with him.”

Neymar’s domestic journey so far

The Brazilian started his career with boyhood club Santos, where he quickly showcased abilities that enticed the majority of Europe’s big hitters.

Madrid invited Neymar to train with them when the above incident occurred. The La Liga giants even allowed the then-youngster to watch the first-team in action from the president’s box at the famous Santiago Bernabeu.

After making 134 appearances in all competitions for the Brazilian side, scoring 70 goals and assisting 35 times, Neymar made the decision to join Madrid’s biggest rivals Barcelona when the two clubs agreed a costly and at first, undisclosed, £71.5 million fee.

It was at Barcelona where the world stage was finally introduced to the indisputable talents of Neymar. 186 appearances, 105 goals and 77 assists later and Neymar was now considered one of the best players in the world.

However, this seemingly wasn’t enough for Neymar who was still considered to be playing in the shadow of Barcelona legend Lionel Messi. A shocking transfer unfolded when oil-rich French outfit PSG met the £200 million release clause in the Brazilian’s contract, with the club then convincing Neymar to switch the La Liga for Ligue 1 football.

Now at PSG, Neymar is providing highly impressive performances week-in-week-out. To date, he has played 41 games, scored 39 goals and created 20 assists.

Forever linked with a move back to Spain to play for Madrid, only time will tell whether Neymar stays loyal to his current employers or whether he’ll belatedly keep to his word from 2006.
