Why Harry Kane must join Real Madrid – Tony Cascarino

Former Chelsea and Marseille striker Tony Cascarino believes Harry Kane should leave Tottenham Hotspur for Real Madrid if the opportunity arises.

The 25-year-old Spurs marksman, who won the World Cup’s Golden Boot award with six goals in Russia this summer, is widely considered to be among the best strikers in world football by his fellow peers as well as many pundits. Manager Mauricio Pochettino declared Kane “the number one striker in the world” last December when he broke Alan Shearer’s record for the most Premier League goals scored in a calendar year, with 39.

Kane’s incredible rise has seen him being linked with a number of clubs and, although he remains loyal to his boyhood club, Cascarino feels the England captain and Real Madrid would be a match made in heaven.

“It would make sense for Real to move for Kane, who is 25 and has five or six years on most of the other quality centre-forwards around Europe, there is a void at Real for an established, world-class centre-forward who can give them several goal-filled years and Kane is that man,” he wrote in The Times.

“He has a remarkable goalscoring record but Kane has not actually won anything yet, so, unless things change dramatically at Tottenham this season, there has to be a second part of his career, which is to join one of the big clubs in world football, such as Real.

“All being well he’ll have experienced playing in Spurs’ new stadium by the end of the season, so if the chance comes in his mid-20s, he has to move on.”

Kane does not seem happy with the Real Madrid rumours

Kane’s present deal at Spurs expires in June 2024. But, as mentioned, that has not stopped Europe’s elite clubs from attempting to lure him away.

One club that could potentially be looking for a striker is Real Madrid, who for the first time in the 21st century find themselves on a four-game goalless streak.

Oft-criticised Karim Benzema and Mariano might not be seen as long-term number nine options at the Bernabéu and new manager Julen Lopetegui is under pressure.

As fate would have it Kane was in Spain this week and played a crucial role in England securing a historic 3-2 victory, but the local press had one subject in mind and that was if he’s interested in swapping Spurs for Real?

“Sorry, not today,” came his reply to a Marca reporter as he was leaving the Estadio Benito Villamarin in Seville.

Up next for Kane is a showdown away to West Ham in the Premier League before Spurs visit Eindhoven, where they face PSV in the Champions League.
