Farewell West Ham? Wilshere hails sought-after teammate as one of PL’s best

Marko Arnautovic is one of the best players in the Premier League, according to his West Ham United teammate Jack Wilshere.

The Austrian has been heavily linked with a move away from the London Stadium, with his brother and agent recently claiming Arnautovic wants to leave.

Will Arnautovic leave West Ham in January? Five key things to know…

  1. The Austrian has been linked to several big clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea, Roma or to the Chinese Super League.
  2. West Ham have already reportedly turned down a £35million offer from an unnamed side in China.
  3. Club legend Frank McAvennie told reporters that West Ham would likely reject all offers below £60million for the player.
  4. Arnautović joined West Ham in July 2017, signing from Stoke City for £20m.
  5. Since his signing, he has become one of the club’s most important players, averaging a goal every 2.7 games.

According to reports, West Ham have already turned down a £35m offer for the Austrian from an unnamed Chinese side, with the club reiterating he is not for sale.

And Wilshere, who joined West Ham last summer, believes Arnautovic to be one of the best strikers in the Premier League right now.

“For me, he’s one of the best strikers in the Premier League,” he told Sky Sports prior to West Ham’s game against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

“I’ve played with quite a few and he is up there with what he offers the team.”

Understandably, West Ham have no intentions of selling the star although his agent and brother Danijel recently told talkSport of his desire to move.

“He wants to go to a new market and challenge for titles. This is what he wants. It is his great desire that West Ham accept the offer from China.”

It’s a move that could see Arnautović earn a lucrative wage packet, earning around £40million on a four-year contract.

In the statement released by his brother, he went on: “West Ham bought Marko for peanuts. They paid £20m for him, which is nothing in the current market,”

“They bought him to keep them in the Premier League last season and he did that. He took every award at the club; best player, signing of the season and the players’ award.”

“Now West Ham have a fantastic offer. It is close to double what they paid for him.”

The headlines have been filled with talk of the Austrian forward’s future and as such, his decision to move to China has come under fire.

West Ham fans are eager for some resolution and his brother was quick to quell any talk of his mind being elsewhere.

His statement continued: “He knows the West Ham fans love him and he has a special connection with them, but things move on, this is the world of sport, and he hopes they can understand.”

“Marko is professional and is preparing himself for the Arsenal game. He will give 100 per cent for West Ham. That is Marko. He will never change.”

“Until he is no longer a West Ham player, he will give everything to the club. He hopes the fans can respect his wishes.”

West Ham fans react to Arnautovic wave

With the Hammers leading after 70 minutes, Manuel Pellegrini looked to make some changes to his side to secure the win.

One of those changes was bringing off Arnautovic for Andy Carroll, and the Austrian stirred conversation among West Ham fans with the way he left the pitch.

As well as applauding the Hammers faithful, Arnautovic was shown to be waving goodbye to those at the London Stadium. And some weren’t happy.
