Golovin to Chelsea done deal talk denied by CSKA

CSKA Moscow and World Cup star Aleksandr Golovin‘s proposed move to Premier League side Chelsea is not a done deal according to the Russian club’s president.

Golovin shocked the world with his performances at this year’s World Cup in Russia, where the host nation managed to defy the odds and reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

Among the many players who provided consistently impressive turnouts was Golovin whose flair from midfield was a constant problem for opposing teams.

Naturally, some of Europe’s ‘big-hitters’ became aware of Golovin and rumours surfaced that Premier League side Chelsea were interested in bringing the Russian to England.

However, despite reports that a deal has already been agreed, club president Yevgeny Giner has denied the claims and insists that, although he accepts the club will have to allow Golovin to leave CSKA, no deal has been agreed thus far.

“In order not to ruin [Golovin] we must let him go. But we have no solution for today,” Giner told Russian outlet Sport24 (via Goal).

“When we receive an offer, we always try to negotiate openly.

“Indeed, we were visited by the vice-president of Monaco [Vadim Vasilyev] and made a proposal for Golovin.

“Chelsea? There is no closed arrangement with them. But the question of his transition to another club will be decided, I think, in the next couple of days.”

With Maurizio Sarri now in charge of Chelsea following Antonio Conte’s departure, the Blues are getting set for a new era at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have started their pre-season with a trip to Australia where they will face Perth Glory before returning to Europe as part of the International Champions Cup.

The Blues will then go up against Inter Milan, Arsenal and Lyon with the season’s traditional curtain raiser with Manchester City in the Community Shield sandwiched between the latter two fixtures.

Huddersfield Town then await Chelsea for their opening Premier League fixture on August 11.
