Harry Maguire comments suggest Leicester and England defender is open to Man Utd move

Leicester City and England defender Harry Maguire has hinted he could be open to a move with Manchester United.

Maguire, 25, only joined the Foxes last summer following a good debut Premier League campaign with Hull City.

But the centre-back’s stock has exponentially risen over the summer owing to his exploits at the back for England in the World Cup, as the Three Lions finished fourth.

As a result, Maguire has been linked with a move to Manchester United to beef up their defence, and the 25-year-old has not ruled out leaving Leicester.

“Every player wants to play at the highest level. I’ve just come back from playing at a World Cup, where I really enjoyed the high pressure of the games,” he told the Sun, via the Manchester Evening News.

“It was something that I really thrived off.

“Leicester have been unbelievable to me and I’m really happy there but I’m also an ambitious player and everyone wants to play at the top.”

Maguire played in all seven of England’s games at the World Cup, starting in six, as the Three Lions reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by Croatia.

The defender was a rock in defence as part of a back three, and scored one goal for England in their 2-0 quarter-final win over Sweden.

Maguire’s first season with Leicester

Playing alongside Wes Morgan in defence for Leicester, Maguire quickly made himself an important part of the Foxes’ back line.

The 25-year-old won 119 aerial duels in the Premier League last season, more than any other Leicester player.

Maguire also made more blocks (28) than any other Foxes and Manchester United player as well as making the second-most tackles (63) behind only the impressive Wilfred Ndidi (138).

Leicester’s next pre-season game is against Valencia at the King Power Stadium on August 1.
