Liverpool are the favourites to win the Premier League this season according to former Reds striker Dean Saunders.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have invested heavily so far this summer, easily topping the Premier League high-spending charts to date.
The Merseyside club have so far brought in Naby Keita from RB Leipzig for £52.75 million, talented midfielder Fabinho from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco for £43.7 million, Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri from recently relegated Stoke City for £13.5 million and the latest signing has now been confirmed as long-term target Alisson Becker from AS Roma for a mighty £67 million.
With the added strength brought to Liverpool’s squad, former Reds striker Saunders – who scored 11 league goals in 42 appearances for the club – believes Liverpool finally have a squad good enough to win the Premier League.
Speaking on talkSPORT Saunders said: “I’m looking at the problem from last year, the squad wasn’t big enough. Goalkeeper was dodgy, he’s sorted that out. You look at the bench and now you’ve got the likes of Shaqiri.
“I don’t know what team he’s got. He’s got about 14 strikers! When you look through it all, the front line at the minute he’s got Firmino, Salah, Sturridge, Mane, Shaqiri, Origi, Ings, Solanke, Ben Woodburn, Lallana and Markovic, he’s back now.
“I think now that they’ve got a chance, they can win the league.
“They’ve spent £172 million more than Newcastle at the minute this summer so, that is the gap closing. They’re spending the money.
“Obviously, they’re going to get rid of a few of these players but who is he going to play in midfield?
“He’s got Fabinho, Keita, Henderson, Lallana, Milner. He’s now looking round going “I’ve got such a good squad”.”
