Malcom emerges as Roma target amid Everton links

Roma sporting director Monchi has dropped a hint that the club are possibly in the market to sign Bordeaux winger Malcom amid intense Everton speculation.

Malcom, 21, has been hotly tipped to leave Ligue 1 this summer with a number of high-profile European clubs tracking his progress; Everton became the latest side linked with the Brazilian winger and were reportedly in advanced talks to bring him to Goodison Park.

The Toffees were leading the race to require his services, but with Liverpool now set to sign Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson for a fee in the region of £66m, this will give Giallorossi manager Eusebio Di Francesco some serious funds to play around with this summer.

Talking to a press conference today Monchi told reporters (via Football Italia) that the club may be interested in prising the talented winger away from France, though he was more clear in his claims that Steven Nzonzi would not be on his way to the Italian capital.

He said: “Malcom seemed crazy and today you tell me that’s a possibility. It’s fair to say that too, not just talk about Nainggolan and Alisson but also about the signings.

“There’s about a month left until the end of the transfer window, there are many reasons to hope.

“Congratulations to N’Zonzi for the World Cup, and of course I like him – I took him to Sevilla. He’s not a real objective for us though.”

Malcom can be deployed either on the wing or more centrally in attacking midfielder, as he was involved in over 35% of all the goals scored by Bordeaux in Ligue 1 last season, netting 12 while also registering seven assists.

New manager Gus Poyet has publicly spoken about his desire to keep the Brazilian at the Matmut Atlantique, but unfortunately for the Uruguayan, Malcom is hot property this summer and is expected to leave the club.
