Aston Villa expect to agree new Jack Grealish deal this month

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce says he hopes agree a new deal with star winger Jack Grealish.

Grealish, 22, was rumoured to be heading to White Hart Lane over the summer after impressing in the Championship last season.

Bruce who is embarking on his third season in charge at Villa Park holds the 22-year-old Englishman in high esteem and hopes to reward his efforts from last season.

“Jack Grealish has been fantastic. We hope to reward him. We are in talks with him now. We hope to get an agreement by the end of the month,” Bruce was quoted by Aston Villa’s official Twitter account.

Bruce also talked with the BBC about Grealish and claimed he is the best young player he has ever worked with.

“He’s arguably the best young player I’ve had, probably ever.

“When you think of Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson who are playing at Liverpool, and I’ve had a lot of good young players.

“We have said to him there will be a reward of a new contract offer to him. The new owners are trying to get a new chief executive in at the moment and that will kick in hopefully at the end of this month when the window closes.”

Grealish joined the Villans at the age of six and made his first senior appearance for the club in the third round of the FA Cup in January 2015 after a loan spell with League Two club Notts County.

With his excellent footwork, Grealish relishes going one-on-one with defenders although he’s not quite fast enough to consistently lose his marker, but makes up for  it with excellent passing.

He only scored three goals and created six assists in 30 Championship games last season, however, the 22-year-old’s overall performances were impressive and he played excellently in the playoffs and was arguably the best player in Villa’s semi-final victory against Middlesbrough.

Grealish and Villa are back in action against Ipswich Town on Saturday.
