Bayern Munich deny interest in Benjamin Parvard

Bayern Munich will not be signing Benjamin Pavard, even if Jerome Boateng leaves the Bavarian club, according to chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Pavard, 22, averaged two tackles per game at this summer’s World Cup and his goal against Argentina in the round-of-16 was one of the highlights of the tournament as he helped Le Bleus win the trophy for the second time.

However, despite rumours heavily linking Boateng to Paris Saint-Germain, Rummenigge has dismissed reports that Bayern will make a move for Pavard, who can operate at both right-back and centre-back.

He told Sport Bild: “No. We have [Mats] Hummels, we have [Niklas] Sule, we have [Javi] Martinez who can play in central defence, [David] Alaba and two young players, Lukas Mai and Chris Richards.

“There is a lot of quality.”

Rummenigge was also pressed about the rumours linking Robert Lewandowski, who has scored 151 goals for the club, to a move away from the Bundesliga champions.

He said: “I predict today: Lewandowski will play a super season and surpass his [single-season] goal record of 30 [league] goals at Bayern Munich. He’ll accelerate like never before.”

Pavard is currently plying his trade in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart, where he played every minute last season to help them finish seventh. But his performances at the World Cup has seen his stock increase with some of Europe’s big clubs reportedly interested.

Bayern begin their Bundesliga title defence at home to Hoffenheim on August 24.
