Jurgen Klopp confirmed that James Milner needed 15 stitches after a clash of heads with Mario Rui in Liverpool‘s friendly win over Napoli on Saturday.
Liverpool were, as they have been for most of pre-season, irresistible in their 5-0 thrashing of last season’s Serie A runners-up.
Georginio Wijnaldum, Mohamed Salah, Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno were all among the goals yesterday after Milner had put the Reds in front after just four minutes.
But the Englishman’s day took a turn for the worst in the second half, with Fabinho replacing him with blood pouring from his head.
Manager, Jurgen Klopp, told reporters (via FourFourTwo): “James Milner played a brilliant game before going off with a crazy cut.
“[He’s had] a lot of stitches, 15, and you don’t want that in that position in your face. But then he is quite positive about it, but probably nobody showed him the mirror so far!
“Hopefully it will be good and that’s very important. It’s not about celebrating the moment, it’s about working for the big moments.”
Momentum has been building on the red half of Merseyside with positive results in pre-season, as well as a very strong performance in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool will want to carry this positivity into the new season – which they begin at home to West Ham United on Sunday August 12.
