Maurizio Sarri has revealed Chelsea teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi is part of his first-team plans for the 2018/19 season following a string of fine pre-season displays.
The 17-year-old made his senior competitive debut for Chelsea last season in a 3-0 FA Cup victory over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge, before making his Premier League debut in a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.
New manager Sarri has given Hudson-Odoi the chance to stake a claim for a place in the first-team squad this season, an opportunity the forward appears to have taken with both hands.
The youngster provided an assist for Pedro’s winner against Perth Glory and put in another impressive performance in the draw with Arsenal in Dublin, despite ending up on the losing side as the Gunners won on penalties.
And Sarri has confirmed Hudson-Odoi will stay at the club and fight for a place in the first-team for the new season.
“He will stay with us for all the season,” Sarri said following the clash with Arsenal.
“He is a very young player. We have to wait. In the future, he will be a very, very strong player.”
“The way he plays suits the way I play”
Hudson-Odoi returned the compliment ahead of Wednesday’s friendly, suggesting his style is befitting of Sarri’s.
“I’ve definitely liked working under Maurizio Sarri,” said Hudson Odoi, via Sky Sports.
The way he plays suits the way I play because I like to get on the ball a lot, go forward and keep attacking, I either stay in the pockets or stay wide.”
Chelsea will face Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday.
