Ranked: The top 10 goalscoring good-luck charms in Premier League history

Every squad has a Mr. Reliable. Those players that will always deliver, whether that be through goals, energy in midfield, solidity at the back or just a bit of everything.

But there are some players that have emerged as lucky charms for their managers. They are few and far between, but it seems you’d be taking a risk by leaving them out of your starting XI!

The Premier League is one of the hardest leagues to be consistent in, but some have obviously got the hang of it.

Below are 10 players with unbeaten records in every Premier League game in which they have scored. Impressive, eh?

10. Victor Moses

Premier League clubs he’s scored for: Wigan Athletic, Chelsea, Liverpool, Stoke City, West Ham United

Total games scored in: 19 (13 wins, 6 draws)

Who knew? It turns out Victor Moses is the ultimate Premier League points magnet. When he broke through as a youngster at Crystal Palace, it looked as though he could go on to become one of the most-exciting wingers in England.

His move to Chelsea didn’t initially work out and he was shipped out on loan on a number of occasions. Brendan Rodgers took him to Liverpool, but after a promising start, including a debut goal away at Swansea City, his time at Anfield petered out.

Eventually he became a reliable option as a wing-back under Antonio Conte, who took a liking to him. Chelsea fans will be hoping his contributions this season can bring them more good fortune.

9. Oscar

Premier League clubs he’s scored for: Chelsea

Total games scored in: 19 (16 wins, 3 draws)

The Brazilian midfielder looked like he’d go on to become a special player for both club and country, but chose to head to the Chinese Super League at the age of just 25, earning a reported £400,000 a week.

When he was with Chelsea he proved to be a very effective player, scoring 38 goals for the Blues in all competitions. In 2014 he took the number 8 shirt, previously worn by Frank Lampard, and was expected to push on with Chelsea and become one of their most important players.

He was, however, subject to criticism when José Mourinho left the club, with many fans believing that his drop off in form cost the Portuguese his job. Oscar also had a knack of scoring goals on the first day of the season, netting Chelsea’s first Premier League goals of the 2013/14 and 2015/16 campaigns.

8. Lee Sharpe

Premier League clubs he’s scored for: Manchester United, Leeds United

Total games scored in: 19 (17 wins, 2 draws)

Lee Sharpe managed 22 goals in 145 appearances for Manchester United, with 17 of them coming in the Premier League and he added to that tally with five more league goals for Leeds.

His goals for Manchester United helped the club on their way to three Premier League titles whilst he was there.

In case you’re wondering what he’s up to now, Sharpe’s recent TV appearances have seen him feature in Celebrity Love Island and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

7. Pedro

Premier League clubs he’s scored for: Chelsea

Total games scored in: 19 (18 wins, 1 draws)

Another Chelsea player. Interesting, isn’t it? The Spaniard is now 31 but is still an important player for the Blues.

He did, of course, score in Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Huddersfield Town last Saturday and looks set to be an important part of Maurizio Sarri’s side this season. If this good fortune continues for him and Chelsea then the Blues could be set for a very successful season.

6. Antonio Valencia

Premier League clubs he’s scored for: Wigan Athletic, Manchester United

Total games scored in: 23 (22 wins, 1 draws)

Mr. Reliable for Manchester United, in more ways than one. The former Wigan man has gradually moved back from right-midfield to right-back but is still scoring important goals for Jose Mourinho’s side.

With this record, you can certainly see why Mourinho continues to pick him and has selected him as captain for this season.

The Ecuadorian managed six Premier League goals for Wigan and has scored 17 for United to date.

5. Oyvind Leonhardsen

Premier League clubs he’s scored for: Wimbledon, Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa

Total games scored in: 28 (21 wins, 7 draws)

A player that did well for all the Premier League clubs he featured for. Thirteen of his league goals came for Wimbledon and altogether Leonhardsen managed 30 goals in the Premier League.

The Norwegian midfielder is perhaps the most surprising player to feature on this list given that the teams he played for were far from world-beaters at the time.

What’s he up to now, you might ask? After retiring in 2007, Leonhardsen is working in the travel industry for Arctic Explorer.

4. Salomon Kalou

Premier League clubs he’s scored for: Chelsea

Total games scored in: 32 (29 wins, 3 draws)

The final Chelsea player to feature on this list, we promise.

You never quite knew what to expect from Salomon Kalou, but his record speaks for itself. The Ivorian spent six years at Chelsea and scored 36 league goals, with his most successful Premier League goal tally coming under Carlo Ancelotti in 2010/11.

During his time with the Blues he won one Premier League title, one Champions League, four FA Cups and one League Cup.

3. Dele Alli

Premier League clubs he’s scored for: Tottenham

Total games scored in: 33 (27 wins, 6 draws)

This is an intriguing one. How long can he carry this on for? At just 22, he’s got the potential to smash the current record.

Alli’s latest Premier League goal success was in Spurs’ 2-1 victory against Newcastle in their Premier League opener last weekend.

The England midfielder scored a hugely impressive 18 league goals in the 2016/17 season, but only managed half of that return last season. If he can keep on scoring, and Spurs can keep avoiding defeat, they’re more than likely to finish in the Champions League spots again this season.

2. Darius Vassell

Premier League clubs he’s scored for: Aston Villa, Manchester City

Total games scored in: 46 (36 wins, 10 draws)

Impressive stuff. Vassell managed 52 Premier League goals altogether, scoring 35 with Aston Villa and 17 with Manchester City, and wasn’t ever on the losing side in any of the Premier League games he scored in.

The former England striker spent 11 years playing Premier League football before spending a year in Turkey with Ankaragücü and finishing his career in the Championship with Leicester City. He held the record for scoring in the most Premier League games without being on the losing side until March 2017.

1. James Milner

Premier League clubs he’s scored for: Leeds United, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool

Total games scored in: 47 (37 wins, 10 draws)

What. A. Record. Milner hasn’t actually scored a Premier League goal since March 2017 but his record still stands. There’s a good chance he’ll extend it playing in this Liverpool side this season, too.

For three years Milner held the record for the youngest player to have ever scored in the Premier League, netting as a 16-year-old in a 2-1 win against Sunderland. James Vaughan broke that record for Everton in 2005.

Altogether he scored five Premier League goals for Leeds and has since scored six league goals for Newcastle, 12 for Aston Villa, 13 for Manchester City and 12 for Liverpool (so far).

He’s had some career and it seems he’s only getting better with age!
