Real Madrid respond to talk of Luka Modric making Inter transfer

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has warned Inter Milan Luka Modric would cost them €750m if they want to sign the midfielder.

Inter had been heavily linked with the World Cup Golden Ball winner this summer as they look to bolster their midfield having already signed Radja Nainggolan from Roma.

The Nerazzurri were also reportedly interested in signing Arturo Vidal from Bayern Munich only to see Barcelona take over as favourites for the Chilean.

But, should Inter hope to sign Modric, they will have to play €750m according to Real Madrid president Perez.

“The only way Modric can leave is if someone pays 750m,” he told Spanish publication Marca.

Modric, who turns 33 in September, has been a key member of the Real Madrid squad having joined from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012.

Since then, the Croatian has played 257 times for Los Blancos, scoring 13 goals and recording 40 assists. In that time, Modric has also won four Champions Leagues, one La Liga and one Copa del Rey as well as two Spanish Super Cups, three UEFA Super Cups and three Club World Cups.

Modric’s golden summer

Shortly after winning his fourth Champions League trophy with Real Madrid, Modric was a key player in Croatia’s run to the World Cup final.

The midfielder beat Belgium’s Eden Hazard and France’s World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann to the award, having scored two goals and recorded one assist in seven games.

Modric covered more distance than any other player in the World Cup, leading his team to two penalty shootout victories to help Croatia in their best ever World Cup finish as runners-up.
