Wolves chairman, Jeff Shi, has admitted that the club may outgrow their current home at Molineux and are considering options for a new stadium.
The Midlands club won the Championship last season to gain promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 2012.
And, speaking to FC Business (via Birmingham Mail), Shi said: “I think by the end of the season we will make some crucial decisions on whether to expand the stadium or build a new stadium.
“Molineux is important for the fans of course and we are looking at it and have architects looking at designs.
“After this season we will have a decision.
“The stadium is in the centre of the city; there is no space to expand the stadium too much.
“We are talking about the maximum size of the stadium, maybe 40,000, 45,000 or 50,000.”
Where do Wolves rank in the Premier League for stadium capacity?
Wolves’ current home at Molineux is by no means a small ground.
With a capacity of 31, 700, it currently sits 13th in the Premier League by capacity – between Leicester City’s King Power Stadium and Brighton’s AMEX stadium.
Last time Wolves were in the Premier League, in 2012, their average attendance was 25, 682. However, since then, the club has expanded the stadium and last season their average went up to 28, 298.
With the return of top-flight football and a host of high profile signings in this summer’s transfer window, that average may well rise again this season.
