Juventus will only have themselves to blame if they don’t win Serie A, says club director

Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta has admitted that if the club fail to win Serie A this season, they only have themselves to blame. 

The current Italian league champions have had a perfect start to the 2018/19 campaign, winning four games out of four, ensuring they are already top of the league this early in the season.

Alongside their already talented squad, this summer saw the Italian outfit bring in Real Madrid and Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese star made the switch from Spain to Italy in a bid to set himself a new challenge after achieving everything and more while based in Madrid.

Club director Marotta believes that with the strong squad Juventus holds, the talent and experience of manager Massimiliano Allegri, and the way both gel together to play good football, the club can only blame themselves if they don’t finish as champions once again next May.

“I think the coach has the option to enjoy himself by creating any starting XI he desires,” the CEO told Sky Sport Italia (via Football Italia).

“This is a competitive squad with no first choices and no reserves, so they are all up for a place and capable of delivering the goods.

“Consequently, the coach chooses which players to use based on the match situation, their characteristics and current form. Today he has chosen an impressive attacking line-up and hopefully we’re going to enjoy ourselves, because nowadays football is about results, but also entertainment.

Juventus have won each of their opening four league games in back-to-back Serie A campaigns for the first time in their history.

“It’d be the ideal to combine a victory with good football and on paper, we have everything needed to achieve that.

“There’s no point denying we are certainly the favourites to win the Scudetto again. That means we are the strongest side, so if we don’t win the title, it’s probably our own fault.”

Juventus will be hoping to carry their perfect start in Serie A to the Champions League, when they travel to Spain to face Valencia on Wednesday night.
