‘Atrocious’ Lukaku doesn’t compare to Aguero, says Ince

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku doesn’t come close to the talents of Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero according to former Red Devils midfielder Paul Ince.

The red half of Manchester have endured a miserable start to the 2018/19 campaign, which has seen them produce inconsistent performances across all competitions so far.

This inconsistency correlates with Jose Mourinho’s players who have failed to perform to the high standards expected of those at United.

Despite their obvious quality, the attacking options at Mourinho’s disposal have failed to perform when it matters so far this season.

Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba are the club’s joint top scorers with four goals in the Premier League, but both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have only scored once so far, whilst former Arsenal man Alexis Sanchez is yet to get on the scoresheet for United this season.

Ince has openly criticised the talents of United striker Lukaku and believes that his contributions are nowhere near the standard that rival striker Aguero sets week-in-week-out for the Premier League champions.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Ince said: “Romelu Lukaku has been atrocious, against Valencia he was terrible to watch. His scoring record is phenomenal, and he’s evidently talented, but he must contribute more.

“When you look at what someone like Sergio Aguero does for Man City – it doesn’t compare. He contributes to all aspects of the game.

“Lukaku has to have the ball right in front of him, and even then, he’s missing clear chances.”

Ince has also hit out at others in the United set-up in a rant that demands a change within the club’s hierarchy.

“The Alexis Sanchez situation, for example. He was a world class player at Arsenal. Now, it’s hard to believe he’s even the same person.

“If I’m Ed Woodward, paying Sanchez top cash, I’d be asking why he hasn’t even been making the team in certain games. If I’m splashing that kind of money, I want to see what I’m getting for it.

“If the argument is that he has a bad attitude, then why does Mourinho still insist on playing Paul Pogba?

“There’s no one in the team has had such an openly negative attitude toward the club, yet he plays every game. This is Man United we’re talking about. Players must do better.”

United’s miserable start across the board

United’s Premier League form has seen them lose three matches so far this season, with Mourinho’s side currently 10th in the table, nine points behind leaders Manchester City.

They faced the embarrassment of exiting the Carabao Cup last month after being dumped out by Frank Lampard’s Derby County at Old Trafford.

Their Champions League campaign started off well with a 3-0 win away to Swiss outfit Young Boys, but their 0-0 home draw against La Liga side Valencia earlier this week means that United are now struggling for form and are without a win in four games.

Jose Mourinho’s side face Premier League strugglers Newcastle United at home on Saturday and if they fail to pick up all three points, there is no telling what the next chapter in this season will be for them.
