“Hakim Ziyech should wait for Liverpool – joining Everton would be crazy,” says former Dutch winger

Dutch footballer-turned-pundit Rene van der Gijp has told Hakim Ziyech to wait for Liverpool and that he’d be “crazy” to join Merseyside rivals Everton.

The 25-year-old Ajax playmaker was heavily linked with a departure from Amsterdam in the summer, though nothing transpired and he remains a key player under manager Erik ten Hag.

It’s expected that following a string of eye-catching performances, his time in the Dutch capital won’t be long, but as far as Van der Gijp is concerned, Ziyech should next move to north London or Anfield.

“I hope that there will be a better club than Roma – an Arsenal or Liverpool,” he told Veronica Inside (via Goal).

“That would be crazy for that boy, he should not go to Everton.”

Ziyech’s season

As mentioned Ziyech, who sees his present deal with Ajax expire in June 2021, has been in good form of late.

So far this season he’s featured across 16 matches in all competitions, whilst playing either out wide or behind the centre-forward, registering six goals and five assists.

He’s quickly established a neat tandem with summer recruit Dusan Tadic (initially signed as his replacement) as Ajax look to win a first league title since 2014.

Elsewhere, Ten Hag’s men are looking to make an impression in Europe; they are currently unbeaten in their Champions League group having beaten AEK Athens 3-0 at home before leaving Munich with a 1-1 draw against Bayern.
