Newcastle would not typically be expected to win an away outing against ‘big six’ opposition, but Rafa Benitez’s Magpies are yet to pick up a victory in any competition this season. As such, there is every chance Newcastle could finish the gameweek rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

Team news: What do Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez have to say?
Man United were without four players through injury for the midweek draw with Valencia: Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard and Ashley Young. Only the latter stands a chance of returning for Saturday’s late kick-off.
Asked if any of the injured party would be fit enough to figure against Newcastle, Mourinho told MUTV: “No, it’s exactly the same [squad]. No new injuries and the players who were injured [are still out] with the possibility of Ashley Young coming back to the squad but Ashley was really a minor situation.”
Newcastle missed defenders Paul Dummett and Federico Fernandez in last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat to Leicester. They will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s match, Benitez said on Friday, but summer signing Salomon Rondon remains sidelined, with the striker currently recovering from a thigh injury.

One interesting question for Mourinho is this: will Marcus Rashford, returning to domestic action from a three-match suspension, occupy Alexis Sanchez’s favoured position on the left wing from the get-go? Further back, will Mourinho revert to his back-three system with Marouane Fellaini or Scott McTominay in the sweeper role? The Champions League outing represented an improved performance for the Red Devils and given his XIs have been changing with the wind over this recent difficult patch, Mourinho would be wise to stick with the same line-up, minus Antonio Valencia – who often left United exposed down the right against Los Che – for the promising Diogo Dalot.
Fellaini, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic started in midfield against West Ham, but there is every chance Fred could come back into the line-up.

But through his dribbling ability, Kenedy does offer a quality that is unique among this Newcastle team. Kenedy has completed 11 take-ons in the Premier League this season, more than twice the total managed by any teammate.

Benitez, on the other hand, will know his Newcastle team need to start picking up points or face the very real reality of being cut off from the rest of the bottom-half clubs at the base of the table.
