Emery’s embarrassing Arsenal stat goes on as West Ham’s ball magnet puts in 9/10 display

West Ham United edge out Arsenal 1-0 in a famous victory over London rivals Arsenal at the London Stadium.

The Hammers secured a well-earned victory over the Gunners on Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off. A sensational performance by 20-year-old Declan Rise topped off with a superb goal – his first for the Hammers –  helped his side claim all of the points.

It’s more misery for Arsenal manager Unai Emery, as he might have given away an eight-point lead over sixth-place Manchester United when the weekend’s action comes to a close.

Arsenal have not kept a clean sheet away from home in the Premier League since Unai Emery took charge and the Spanish tactician has failed to win in seven away games against Pellegrini.

Here’s the player ratings from West Ham’s 1-0 win.

West Ham

Lukasz Fabianski – 7 – Didn’t have an enormous amount to do, but made some good saves in this one.

Pablo Zabaleta – 7 – Didn’t let much get past him at right back. Drove forward with purpose throughout.

Angelo Ogbonnna – 7 – Was key in stopping Lcazette’s charges towards goal, defended well and passed with confidence from the back.

Isso Diop – 8 – Mades some shrewd interventions and defended with composure throughout this clash.

Aaron Creswell – 7 – Was mostly solid, but was occasionally bested by Maitland-Niles.

Declan Rice – 9 – Showed his promise again today. Made one crucial interception in the first half to deny the Gunners the opener. Scored West Ham’s opening goal, and his first for the club, with a cool finish inside the box. Outstanding performance.

Mark Noble – 8 – Passed well, tackled well and initiated his side’s attacks. A commanding performance from the Hammers captain.

Samir Nasri – 8 – Not bad on his Premier League debut with the Hammers. Made some nice touches, linked well with his attacking colleagues and assisted on their opener.

Michail Antonio – 7 – Used his athleticism and strength to bully Arsenal’s defenders. Made some wasteful passes at times.

Felipe Anderson – 8 – Was at the heart of several one-touch attacks among Arsenal’s crowded back line. He made some excellent dribbles and was always a threat.

Marko Arnautovic – 5 – Was on the fringes today with those around him shining. Could well be his last appearance for the Londoners.

Sunstitutes:

Andy Carrol – 6 – (for  Arnautovic 70) Held up the ball well, giving his team mates a breather.

Robert Snodgrass – 5 – ( for Nasri 70) Made no impact.

Pedro Obiang (for Antonio 81) – NA – Late sub.

Arsenal

Bernd Leno – 5 – Couldn’t do much to prevent West Ham’s opener.

Sokratis – 6 – Made some good interventions and was solid for most of the game.

Laurent Koscielny – 6 –Was mostly solid throughout this game, but struggled at times with Antonio’s strength and pace.

Shkodran Mustafi – 5 – Was poor in possession and looked lost at times at the back. Booked.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 7 – Composed performance at right back, got forward well and defended competently.

Granit Xhaka – 4 – Produced nothing of note and allowed Noble and Antonio too much room at times. His awful clearance led to West Ham’s opener.

Matteo Guendouzi – 6 – Produced Arsenal’s closest effort in the first half. Worked well going forward, but needed to get tighter to West Ham’s attacking players.

Sead Kolasinac – 5 – Got forward well. Would have had an assist to his name if it wasn’t for Declan Rice. Made some poor challenges. Booked.

Alex Iwobi – 6 – Had a quiet first half, nearly equalised in the second and used his pace well to get behind the Hammers. Couldn’t produce the magic needed to change the game.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 5 – Created some chances, but didn’t look his sharpest in this game.

Alexandre Lacazette – 5 – Arsenal’s biggest threat in the first half, but didn’t find the net.

Substitutes:

Lucas Torreira (for Xhaka 59) – 5 – Added nothing of note to the game. Passed well.

Aaron Ramsey (for Musatafi 59) – 5 – Marshalled his side forward when he came on, but it wasn’t enough.

Hector Bellerin (for Maitland-Niles 69) – 5 – Made no impact.
