Egypt‘s long-serving goalkeeper Essam El Hadary has rejoined Egyptian Premier League outfit Ismaily SC for the third time in his career.
The veteran gloveman turned 45 in January and shot to fame during the World Cup as his appearance between the sticks during his homeland’s 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia made him the oldest-ever player to feature in the quadrennial tournament.
Despite a shock defeat for the Pharaohs, El Hadary demonstrated his athleticism and ability to still play at the top level after saving a Fahad Al-Muwallad penalty during the match.
Speculation had been gaining traction that the seasoned shot-stopper would be hanging up his gloves after the World Cup, but those rumours has been quickly put to bed as he has now put to pen to paper with his former club.

El-Hadary was plying his trade last season in the Saudi Professional League with Al-Taawoun FC, while his arrival in Saudi Arabia in June 2017 saw him become the first-ever foreign goalkeeper to feature in the league.
His one-year stint has now come to an end with the expiration of his contract, and he has returned to familiar shores in North East Africa after the Egyptian Samba swooped for his signature.
This will be El-Hadary’s third stint with the club, having featured at the Ismailia Stadium during the 2009/10 season, and the 2014/15 season. During his international career, the 45-year-old has amassed 159 caps for the Egyptian national side.
