‘Important people’ say Ronaldo’s Juventus medical is already complete – Luciano Moggi

Former Juventus managing director Luciano Moggi has revealed that after talking to “important people” he believes Cristiano Ronaldo has already undergone a medical with the club.

The Real Madrid star is reportedly on the verge of completing a sensational switch to Italian football with current Serie A champions Juventus, and according to Moggi the transfer is on the cusp of completion.

Real’s all-time leading goalscorer will reportedly sign for a fee in the region of £88m, ending his nine-year association in the Spanish capital after breaking a plethora of records during his stint at the Bernabeu.

Moggi, who is currently serving a life ban from football for his involvement in the Italian football scandal during his reign as Juve chief, has now lifted the lid on the Portuguese talisman’s move.

He told Italian TV network Tele7Gold (via Goal): “In my opinion, he has already signed and passed the medical examination with Juventus in Munich.

“This is what I think after talking to important people.”

Moggi further reminisced about his previous attempt to prise Ronaldo away from Sporting CP in 2002 before the teenage prodigy eventually signed with Manchester United.

The deal would have involved a transfer fee and Chilean striker Marcelo Salas moving to the Portuguese club in exchange for Ronaldo, but the switch failed to materialise.

He added: “I received an alert. I sent an observer to look at him, he was an 18-year-old boy, but he impressed me with his maturity and his choices.

“In the middle of the day I made the contract. Unfortunately, Marcelo Salas refused to sign for Sporting Lisbon because he wanted to return to River Plate.

“I offered five million more for an 18-year-old player, but it could not be done at that time.”

Ronaldo famously netted a controversial 97th-minute winner against Juve in the Champions League quarter-finals last season, which ultimately sent the Italian club crashing out of the competition.

But the 33-year-old could now be set to sign for the Old Lady after scoring 450 goals in 438 appearances across all competitions for Los Blancos.
