BREAKING: Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa’s buyout clause triggered ahead of Chelsea move

Kepa‘s buyout clause has been met by Chelsea, with the Athletic Bilbao keeper expected to move for around £72m.

The figure is a world record for a goalkeeper, while the west Londoners have signed the most expensive Spanish player ever for a third time, following the purchases of Alvaro Morata last summer and Fernando Torres in 2011.

The 23-year-old, who kept seven clean sheets as Athletic Bilbao finished 16th in La Liga last term, is expected to move for just over £70m and will immediately become the club’s number one after Thibaut Courtois made the decision to extend his holiday against the club’s wishes.

Courtois, part of the Belgium team that enjoyed their most successful ever World Cup, was due to return to training on Monday, but didn’t show up.

He is now in his home country and barring any more surprises, will move to Real Madrid before tomorrow’s 5pm transfer deadline for a fee of around £35m.
