Lukaku needs help if he’s to fire Man Utd to title, says Robson

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson believes his former club cannot solely depend on Romelu Lukaku‘s goals if they are to challenge for major honours this season.

The 25-year-old Belgian marksman finished as the Red Devils’ leading scorer in his debut campaign (2017/18) and is currently atop of their 2018/19 goals chart.

United ended last season trophyless and Robson, who remains a celebrated figure at Old Trafford, feels others need to chip in if Jose Mourinho’s side are to celebrate come May.

“It’s also a matter of Sanchez, Lingard, Martial and Rashford getting into double figures this season, if we’re really going to challenge for the title,” he told The Mirror.

“Lingard did well in terms of goals last season, getting into double figures, and it can’t all fall on Lukaku.

“There are going to be periods in the season when he goes through that barren spell and doesn’t score. When that happens, there have to be other people there who can score goals for United if we’re going to be challenging for trophies.”

Red Rom

Since completing a £75m move to United from Everton in July 2017, subsequently reuniting with his former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Lukaku has assimilated well into his new surroundings.

He began life at Old Trafford well, having registered five goals across his opening five matches for the Red Devils, including the Uefa Super Cup final against Real Madrid.

To date, he has featured 55 times in all competitions under Mourinho, bagging 30 goals – with 19 of those coming in the Premier League – and creating a further nine for his teammates.

He is next expected to be in action for United during Saturday’s trip to high-flying Watford.
