Valencia have reached a deal in principle to sign Villarreal winger Denis Cheryshev on loan until the end of the season.
Cheryshev spent the second half of the 2015/16 La Liga season on loan at Valencia from Real Madrid – scoring three goals in eight appearances across all competitions – before joining Villarreal on a permanent deal that summer.
The Russian was one of the standout players at this summer’s World Cup, scoring four goals including a stunning strike in Russia’s quarter-final defeat to eventual runners-up Croatia.
As a result, Cheryshev has been linked with an exit from Villarreal, where he has scored 11 goals in 90 games across two spells – one loan, one permanent.
Valencia have won the race to sign 27-year-old on a season-long loan, announcing the news on their official website, with a statement that translates to: “Valencia CF has reached an agreement in principle with Villarreal CF for the loan of Denis Cheryshev until the end of the season.”
Cheryshev made just seven first-team appearances for Real Madrid during his time at the Bernabeu, during which he was sent out on loan to Villarreal, Valencia and Sevilla.
If registered in time, he could make his second Valencia debut against Atletico Madrid at the Mestalla Stadium on August 20th.
