Djibril Cisse puts DJ career on hold to sign for newly-formed AC Vicenza

Former Liverpool and France striker Djibril Cisse continues to put his DJ career on hold after signing for Serie D side AC Vicenza.

The 37-year-old retired from professional football back in 2015 due to constant injury problems but returned to action with Swiss side Yverdon in 2017.

Now, the eccentric forward has decided to help newly founded AC Vicenza 1902 re-establish themselves in the Italian leagues.

Former club Vicenza went bankrupt and this summer’s emergence of AC Vicenza 1902 has allowed Cisse a route back into Italian football with a brand new challenge for the star.

Due to the re-establishment of the club, Cisse – along with AC Vicenza 1902 – will likely be playing football in the Italian Serie D division, which is an amateur league – as opposed to in Serie C/Lega Pro.

Cisse enjoyed a successful footballing career, which saw him score nine goals for France in all competitions, with his only international honour coming in the shape of the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2003.

Domestically, Cisse won a whole host of awards and trophies. In his native country playing for Ligue 1 side Auxerre, Cisse won the Coupe de France in 2003.

Success in France convinced Liverpool to bring him to the Premier League where he helped the club win the Uefa Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and the FA Cup, all in the space of just over a year.

After leaving the Reds, Cisse failed to settle at any league club, plying his trade for a whole host of clubs including Marseille, Sunderland, Lazio and Queen’s Park Rangers.

ST first, DJ second

After first retiring in 2015 due to recurring injury problems, 2017 saw the French forward commit to a number of new ventures.

Becoming part of the Yahoo Sport team in February of last year, Cisse also stated that he would pursue a career in the music industry.

“It is with the same passion that I will devote myself entirely to music, fashion and Yahoo Sport,” the striker said in an exclusive interview.

“I’m going to work hard in my career as a DJ, producer and consultant as well as developing my clothing brand.”

Despite turning his back on music – first signing with Swiss side Yverdon on a short-term deal in July of the same year and now AC Vicenza 1902 – it is still possible to book a set from the former Liverpool striker who has been described as a “passionate spinner”.
