Liverpool urged to sign Aaron Ramsey as Arsenal contract winds down

Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders has urged his former club to sign Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The 27-year-old Welsh midfielder has entered the final year of his present deal in north London meaning he’s free to speak with other clubs from next January.

Saunders, who represented the Reds during their 1991/92 campaign, feels Jurgen Klopp’s squad would become stronger by acquiring the services of his compatriot Ramsey.

“Yes. When you first said it, my reaction was ‘it will make them stronger, having Ramsey in the squad’,” he told talkSPORT.

“He covers more ground than everyone almost every week, and he scores goals and makes goals; he’s a good footballer with a good brain.

“Liverpool have signed Fabinho and [Naby] Keita – they look really good – and Fabinho is more like [Patrick] Vieira, where he will sit in front of the defence.

“Then you’ve got Keita and Ramsey… I can see that. I think Aaron Ramsey will make Liverpool stronger. I think he’d be a great signing for Liverpool.

“If Liverpool sign him, they definitely get stronger. What a midfield that would be – Ramsey, Keita and Fabinho.”

Ramsey the Gunner

Ramsey joined Arsenal from boyhood club Cardiff City in 2008 and has gone on to play 331 matches for the north London club managing 59 goals and 57 assists with his most prolific season being the 2013/14 campaign.

During that campaign, in which he predominantly played in central midfield, he bagged 16 goals across 34 matches in all competitions and created a further 10 for his teammates.

Last season, Ramsey featured in 30 outings across all competitions, registering 11 goals and 12 assists which earned him the club’s player of the season award.
