Kalidou Koulibaly has signed new deal, say Napoli

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has put an apparent end to speculation surrounding Kalidou Koulibaly‘s future by claiming the defender has signed a new long-term contract.

The Senegalese centre-back, who has made 164 appearances for Napoli since joining from Belgian side Genk in 2014, has been linked with a move to the Premier League over this summer – with Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly holding an interest.

But, despite admitting the club rejected a sizeable offer for Koulibaly in July, De Laurentiis seems to have quashed rumours of any bids.

Speaking before Napoli’s thrashing at the hands of Liverpool yesterday, he told Sky Sports Italia (via FourFourTwo): “He has renewed with us for the next five years, he is the best in his role.

“We said no to a €90m offer for him. There were three teams ready to take him, but we kept him. Let’s enjoy this team, there are those who work for us and are ready to give everything to win.”

Napoli will be hoping that Koulibaly’s presence can help the club go one better than last season’s second-place Serie A finish this time around.

The Partenopei kick off their Serie A campaign away to Lazio on Saturday August 18.
