Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has questioned Cristiano Ronaldo’s assertion that Juventus feels more like a family than Los Blancos.
The long-serving defender was questioning comments from former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting that the dressing room at the Santiago Bernabeu is ‘a family’.
Ronaldo left Madrid this summer in to join Serie A champions Juventus in a deal worth €100 million and the Portuguese star said: “This club is different (compared to Madrid), everyone is very friendly, the fans too, like a family.”
But Ramos questioned those comments. Talking to reporters ahead of Real’s Super Cup clash with rival Atletico in Tallinn, Diario AS cited the defender as saying: “I am not sure what Cristiano meant with those comments.
“Madrid has always felt like a family, that feeling has been a big part of our success and I am not sure what he meant, if he was hitting out at the dressing room or possibly those at the top of the club.
“Losing Cristiano was obviously not a good thing for us but this club always moves on and will continue to win trophies and titles, the drive and motivation will never stop.
“He is one of many great players who has left Madrid and they have continued to grow stronger, and as with Zinedine Zidane leaving, we wish them all the best but hopefully it does not stop us.
“A Ronaldo replacement? That is the decision of the president, not us. We always say the door is open for new arrivals but it is more important to have the right mentality than any other talent.”
Real Madrid have been linked to several big names this summer, with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard reportedly one of their main targets.
While they look to add players, Los Blancos are also battling to retain the services of Croatian star Luka Modric who is reportedly a target of Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri are aiming to strengthen after Juventus brought Ronaldo to Serie A and see Modric as the ideal signing.
Juventus are hot favourites to defend their title and start the new campaign against Chievo Verona on August 18 at the Stadio Bentegodi.
