Andreas Christensen’s agent hands Chelsea a public transfer ultimatum

Andreas Christensen will look to leave Chelsea in January if he is not getting first-team football, according to his agent and father, Sten.

Christensen, 22, was one of Chelsea’s strongest players during the first half of last season but lost his starting place after a tough second half of the campaign.

The Danish international hasn’t been able to win back his place since. The two starts he has made this season have not come in the Premier League and the player is reportedly now considering his future at the club.

In an interview with Danish television (via the Telegraph), Sten said that they will look to speak to Chelsea if his son’s situation does not improve, but they will not be entertaining the thought of a loan move.

He said: “If his situation doesn’t change around Christmas, we’ll obviously schedule a chat with Chelsea and say, ‘okay, what can we do for Andreas? Can we move him?’

“For me it’s not a loan again. Either it’s Chelsea or else he needs to leave. I don’t think a loan is the optimal situation for Andreas. It’s sort of either or.

“I think, unfortunately, Chelsea have too many players who just go out on loan if [the club] isn’t going to use them and I don’t think Andreas should get caught in that.

“I’m of the conviction that we’ll attempt to move Andreas in the winter time [if he’s not playing]. Around Christmas, something else needs to happen.”

New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has instead opted to use 31-year-old Brazilian defender David Luiz who, having won more aerial duels and made more interceptions, blocks and clearances per 90 minutes than any other centre-back at the club, has looked rejuvenated.

The Italian’s side host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge Saturday with Chelsea currently joint-top of the Premier League, unbeaten with 20 points.
