Ederson opens up on Brazil rivalry with Alisson

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has admitted Liverpool‘s Alisson is “one step ahead” of him in the Brazil national team set-up.

Alisson, who has played 32 times for Brazil at senior level, was picked ahead of Ederson at the World Cup in Russia over the summer – Ederson has made just one appearance for his country despite being only a year younger than Alisson.

Now both goalkeepers play for top Premier League clubs, the battle for the No.1 Brazil jersey could be set to intensify.

And Ederson has revealed he and Alisson will both be given the opportunity to impress in upcoming games for the Seleção.

“I think there is a lot of similarity between the two of us, he is having a very positive start to the season at Liverpool,” Ederson told Globo Esporte (via the Liverpool Echo).

“Here he is one step ahead of me, he played in a World Cup but that’s not a reason to work less.

“Brazil is well served for goalkeepers, many who have not been to the World Cup are very good. Those who are picked will do a good job.

“Yesterday, after training, Tite called to talk to me and Alisson and said that I would play the first game and Alisson the second.

“I was very happy to have an opportunity to play a match with the Brazilian team.”

Ederson vs Alisson

Both players have started all eight Premier League games so far this season. They have conceded just three goals each in 2018/19.

Alisson comes out on top when it comes to saves. The former AS Roma stopper has made 18, saving 85.71% of the shots he’s faced, while Ederson has made 13, keeping out 81.25% of the shots he’s faced.

Ederson, however, has a superior passing accuracy rate (85.08%) to Alisson (80.28%).

Brazil face Saudi Arabia on Friday and Argentina next Tuesday, with Alisson getting the nod against the tougher opponent.
