Ramsey remains focused despite Arsenal uncertainty, says Giggs

Wales manager Ryan Giggs says the ongoing speculation regarding Aaron Ramsey‘s club future hasn’t been a distraction ahead of their upcoming international matches.

The 27-year-old Arsenal midfielder is in the final year of his present deal with reporters suggesting there’s no offer on the table, meaning he’s free to speak with other clubs from January.

Despite his situation Ramsey is still featuring for the Gunners under Unai Emery, and when asked if his contract situation has been a distraction Giggs was forthright in his answer.

“I don’t want to get involved. No. It hasn’t been,” he told reporters (via Goal).

“It wasn’t in the last campaign and it hasn’t been in this campaign. Aaron enjoys meeting up [with the Wales squad] and as for contract talks, I don’t really want to get involved in that.

“When he’s here he’s my player and like always he loves being here, he loves playing for his country and he’s very good to have around the dressing room and in the camp in general. It hasn’t affected him from my point of view.”

Ramsey the Gunner

Ramsey earned the first of his 55 international caps with Wales a few months after joining the Gunners from boyhood club Cardiff City in 2008.

He’s gone on to play 340 matches for the north London club, managing 60 goals and 60 assists with his most prolific season being the 2013/14 campaign.

During that campaign, in which he predominantly played in central midfield, he registered 16 goals across 34 matches in all competitions and created a further 10 for his teammates.

So far in a Welsh jersey he played a pivotal role in the Dragons reaching Euro 2016, where they’d reach the semi-finals under former boss Chris Coleman, and has 14 goals and seven assists to his name.
